ACTUALLY trauma-informed
This means embodiment, not just factual knowledge of how trauma impacts you and how to resolve it through quick fixes. It will feel much different from the medical-model therapy you may have tried already. I have done extensive training in Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy (Hakomi Institute) and Somatic Experiencing (Dr. Peter Levine), giving me the ability to provide safety, calm, and groundedness amidst the storm that trauma brings. And with the gentleness to not be afraid of it.
TRUE Mind-Body Integration
We each have a mind and a body. If we want to truly heal from our wounds or navigate life with greater strength, we need to include your whole personhood. Cognitive therapy is vital. Thoughts must be managed and held accountable. Also, the body must be invited and listened to. It holds valuable information and speaks its own language of sensations, memories, images, and emotions. This is where a sprinkle of mindfulness in session can provide the missing piece that ‘talk therapy’ often skips over.
FAITH-based (if desired)
I am passionate about the Christian faith illuminating our human healing process. Scripture gives us prescriptions for managing our thoughts, caring for our bodies, and purifying our hearts. In my practice, I use this knowledge to bridge the gap often experienced between the secular science of psychology and our common faith. For these clients, this approach can show up in many ways, from including prayer, to discerning discussions, to Christian mindfulness and visualization. It’s amazing what happens when we invite God into the room!
